Oven Cooking Help Handout
You will be making
rice in one dutch oven and cooking the hamburger in the other for nachos.
1.
Start the briquettes first.
a. Fill the charcoal chimney. You will need to
place paper under to bottom. (Tare off part of the top of the briquette bag).
Place under and light it.
b. It will take about 20 minutes or so be til all
are white looking and ready to go.
c. You might not use all the briquettes and that is okay
Cooking the Rice.
a. Place 8 cups of water in the dutch.
b. Place 18 briquette on the ground in a circle
the size of your dutch oven. Note: this is for a 12” dutch oven if you have a
14” or 16” add 2 briquette for each extra inch.
c. Place dutch oven over them.
d. Place lid on and add 18 briquettes circling
the outer rim of the lid.
e. After 10 minutes or so the water should be hot
enough to add 4 cups of rice and the salt.
f. Remove lid and stir as needed.(about every 5
minutes)
g. Cook until done (about 25 minutes) and then remove from heat. Stir time to time. It will stay hot for a while…
Nachos
a. While the water is getting hot for the rice
start getting the second dutch oven going.
b. Place 12 briquettes on the ground the size of
the dutch oven. Note: this is for a 12” dutch oven if you have a 14” or 16” add
2 briquette for each extra inch.
c. Place dutch oven over briquette and add the
hamburger.
d. Place lid on an add 12 briquettes to the lid.
Remove lid time to time to stir. Cook until done and drain of grease and remove.
e. While the ground beef is cooking have the
youth cut up the vegetables.

Prep for eating
a. Below are the directions for making the nachos
and you might consider the following.
b. If you have picky eater or youth with allergies it might be best to serve it buffet style and
they can have what they want and skip what they don’t like and you can still
make some nachos in the dutch oven per the recipe
How to make this Dutch
oven nacho recipe:
This recipe is 4-6
servings and you will most likely have to double or triple the recipe. The appropriate amount of food will be delivered to you.
Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef
·
2 bell peppers, diced
·
1/2 white onion, diced
·
1 large bag nacho
chips
·
2 cups cheddar cheese,
shredded
·
Sour cream
·
Salsa
·
Taco seasoning
Directions:
1. Cook the ground beef and drain off fat. Then
add 1-2 tsp of taco seasoning per pound.
2. Cut vegetables up into small size pieces.
3. Remove cooked ground beef from dutch oven.
Then a layer of nacho chips, beef, pepper, onion and cheese in the dutch
oven. We usually have 2-3 layers of nacho ingredients. Optional -Line the
dutch oven with parchment paper or foil. This is makes clean up a breeze!
4. Place lid on dutch oven and place over fire
for 5 -10 minutes or until all of the cheese has melted. Note: Remove
about half the briquettes when melting the cheese.
5. Serve with salsa and sour cream as desired.
